Back in the day, if you wanted to inform people about an event, or anything for that matter, you would write a letter, hand deliver some flyers, make phone calls, or tell a friend to tell a friend. Now, technology allows us to communicate with just a few clicks.
If used properly, social media can heighten sales for businesses and increase attendance in public events such as book signings, parties, and even church services. There are many avenues of social media to use such as Facebook, Instagram, Periscope, Linked In, Twitter, and Tumblr.
As an author, I use social media to inform people about my books and blogs. I enjoy writing and being creative and I love being able to introduce my projects to the world. I Facebook, Tweet, Instagram, and build websites to capture the attention of readers everywhere. At first, the response from social media was discouraging. Maybe you’ve experienced the same results. But like most things in life, if you keep at it, the results improve over time.
As a result of using social media, I’ve been able to reach people from all facets of life, my book sales are increasing, and the traffic to my website has increased. Here are a few ways you can use social media to let the world know about your endeavors.
Post daily to your accounts. If you are an author, or a motivational speaker, post inspiring quotes or excerpts from your book. Be consistent. Ask your social media friends to repost or share your posts on their timelines. This increases your views. Everyone is connected to different people. By asking your friends to share your posts, you have the opportunity to have your posts viewed by people you may not be connected with yet.
If you have a website you would like others to view, create traffic by blogging and posting your blogs to your social media sites. Once people click on the link to your blog, they enter your website and are able to view other services or products you have.
The great thing about social media is it allows people to get to know you. By getting to know you, people become comfortable with who you are and what they are buying into. Studies show that the most successful salesmen are friendly. That’s a no brainer, but why are friendly salesmen more successful? It’s simple. People like to feel comfortable about spending their money or time. The best way to make people feel comfortable is by letting them know that you are human, just like them. It allows them to connect with you on a more personal level. Using social media such as Periscope allows you to do live videos in which others can respond to you by chatting during the live stream.
